Bio Boiler

Here at Malkin Tower we have just installed a biomass boiler supplied by
www.oilline.co.uk.  This will replace our old oil boiler which was becoming extremely costly to run. Hopefully the biomass boiler will be extremely efficient and should certainly be cheaper to run plus we are now eligible for the RHI payments, which over 20 years should cover the installation cost and reduce our carbon footprint considerably. The boiler is now fully commissioned and up and running.  Oil-line installed our boiler with great efficiency and none of our guests were disrupted.  They ensured that the guests had heating and  hot water at all times.  We can certainly recommend anyone who uses oil to consider a biomass boiler and would be only too pleased to show off the work that Oil-line have done installing this boiler for us.

Gold GTBS

We were assessed in April for our Green Tourism Rating and are pleased to say that we have successfully managed to maintain our Gold GTBS status for the 3rd consecutive time.  We would like to thank all our guests who are good enough to help us by turning lights off when not needed, being careful and watching the amount of water they use and also recycling their waste during their stay with us.  Thank you

Spring in to Spring

Clocks have gone forward, nights are much longer and the weather has been fantastic, lets hope it lasts until easter.  Good Friday this year will be the 400th anniversary of the last meeting of the Pendle Witches.  No one will ever know the exact site for Malkin Tower but whatever you want to believe, you can believe that this area has been called Malkin, however it was spelt, for hundreds of years.  Blacko Primary school last year started unearthing what looks like ruins, sadly since this began the weather has not been on our side, lets hope that maybe this year we can unearth a little more.
Have a good easter and lets give a thought to those witches, who were probably no more than our modern day herbalists!!!

Taking the plunge

This is the first attempt at blogging, Barrie assures me that it is easy and that it gets the news and offers out into the big wide web.  This year is the 400th anniversary of the last meeting held by the Pendle witches.  Was it here at Malkin Tower or was it somewhere else.  No one, I doubt will ever really know.  But for now we like to believe that it may have been here.

The other morning as I looked out of the kitchen window I saw a woodpecker merrily clinging to the side of the electricity pole.  Unfoturnately by the time I had the camera it was gone.
